Children's Dentistry
We love kids and it shows! We use gentle techniques and lots of patience to complete your child’s treatment. We have a special area for children in the Reception Area so they will always be entertained and having fun! We even have a treatment room just for children - the 'Beach Room' where it feels like kids (and their parents) are on vacation!
When Should You Bring Your Child in for a Check-Up?
We strongly believe in protecting your child’s teeth from a young age. If they have teeth, they can get cavities – we recommend a check-up when your child gets all their teeth in: 12-18 months old. You can even start younger by bringing your youngster with you for your hygiene appointment so he/she will see that coming to Smith Family Dentistry is a fun place!
At Smith Family Dentistry, we are proud to provide compassionate and gentle children’s dentistry in a fun, welcoming environment. Early dental care plays a vital role in preventing cavities, supporting proper jaw development, and establishing lifelong healthy oral habits.
Our team uses child-friendly communication, gentle techniques, and plenty of patience to ensure your child feels safe and comfortable during every visit.
When Should Your Child First Visit the Dentist?
We recommend scheduling your child’s first dental check-up when their primary teeth have erupted, typically between 12 and 18 months of age. The Canadian Dental Association also supports early preventive care to monitor development and reduce the risk of early childhood cavities.
Early visits allow us to:
- Monitor tooth eruption and jaw growth
- Provide fluoride treatments when appropriate
- Discuss nutrition and cavity prevention
- Educate parents on proper brushing techniques
Even before their first appointment, bringing your child along to your hygiene visits can help them become familiar with the dental environment in a positive and reassuring way.
